Haft - Sin Table Nowruz is one of the oldest and most important festivals in Iran. Haft - Sin Table is an important part of this event. It is being celebrated since ancient times with numerous customs. Nowruz is the celebration of the New Year. One of the most famous Iranian Nowruz ceremonies is arranging the Haft-Sin table which is placed on the floor or a table. Family members usually sit around it during the spring equinox. Every year, Nowruz tables are set up nationwide with various colors and designs. Without a doubt, some features of the Nowruz ceremonies have changed over time and among distinct ethnic groups. However, the Nowruz table, now called Haft-sin, is another symbol of the start of the New Year. The philosophy of the Haft-Sin table goes back to the Persian religion, belief, culture and traditions. It is based on the sacred number seven. “Haft'' (هفت in Persian), meaning seven and Sin, (or سین in Persian), and is the 15th letter in the Persian alphabet. Haft-Sin is a collection of seven symbolic items whose names begin with the letter "Sin" which sounds like ‘S’ in English. Each one of these seven objects has their own meaning, we are going to explain each of them below: 1-Senjed (Oleaster or Silverberry in English) Oleaster is a symbol of wisdom and procreation. The presence of oleaster in the Haft-Sin is the symbol of acting wisely. some people consider oleaster as a symbol of love and affection. They believe that when it’s put on the Haft-Sin table, it increases the love and affection between family members. 2-Sib (Apple in English) An apple on the Haft-Sin table is a symbol of health and well-being. 4 seasons of life in the Alborz mountains This clip is about one and half years of photography and life in the Shemshak village after Coronavirus from February 2020 till August 2012. The photos and time lapse were taken with Canon EOS-R camera and a few of them recorded with Go pro. The original reason for this was to have an archive of photos from this amazing place and use it in the Adventure Iran website as the Shemshak photo gallery section. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-tl-KLG7tqc After a while when I saw that I have a good collection of photos from different aspects of the region like nature, landscape, people, night photography and the changing seasons, I made the decision to make a photo book for the region as well as making a short clip of the slides of my photos. Shemshak village and in it Shemshak Ski Resort which is one the main three ski resorts of Iran, is about 55 km away from the north east of Tehran. Darbandsar village and the ski resort are also nearby Shemshak which is 4 km away and it’s one of the other ski regions in the area. The third is Dizin ski resort which is Iran's largest ski resort and its 14 km away from Shemshak village. These three villages are located in the valley and many mountains above 4000m in the Central Alborz surround these regions. Shemshak village has an altitude between 2600-2800 m and As it was an important coal mine in the region (about a 100 years ago) which was about the beginning of 20 century, the majority of locals worked in the mine. Afterwards in the middle of 20 century (1949), skiing on Shemshak started.

Yalda Night Yalda is the traditional Iranian celebration of the winter solstice – the longest night of the year. Observed widely throughout Iran’s history stretching back into pre-Zoroastrian times, Yalda Night evolved into a treasured festival bringing the family together and continues to be practiced by Iranians around the world. The ritual symbolizes the rebirth of light following the darkest night, and mythologically speaking, represents a critical moment in the eternal battle of Ahuramazada (light/ virtue/ existence) over Ahriman (dark/ evil/ nonexistence). On this cosmically important night, family members gather together in the home of the family elder (typically grandparents, parents, or great aunts and uncles) to share sweets, red fruits (including pomegranate, watermelon, and persimmon), and a mix of candied and roasted nuts. Sometimes, Persian herbed rice with fish is steamed for dinner. In the old days, fruits were set on a korsi – a low table with a heating source underneath – and the family would huddle under a thick blanket to munch on treats and tell stories. The use of the korsi diminished as modern heating systems became common in Iranian homes, but the feeling of togetherness survives in various forms. Some choose to eschew the traditional ceremony and instead gather with close friends for a music-fueled dance party. Whatever the feast, the one ever-present element is the cherished poetry of Hafez, the 14th-century Iranian poet, and mystic, whose words, even 700 years later, are still revered as a kind of oracle by all generations. Similar to fortune-telling with a side of mysticism, each family member puts their hand on the edge of the book, closes their eyes as they make a wish, and opens up a random page. Every family has a dedicated reader, who interprets the selected poem to suit the details of the wisher’s life. It
