In Iran there are different nomad tribes who live in Alborz and Zargros mountain ranges in Iran. One of the famous ones is the Bakhtiari nomads who are a majority of Iranian nomads and on this Adventure Iran trip, we are going to cross through their tent settlements. Also there are other nomad tribes called Qashqaee, Boier Ahmadi, Shah Savan nomads who live in different regions. Bakhtiari’s ethnic groups live in the central and southern part of the Zagros mountains. They will move from lower altitudes to a high mountain from early spring till mid – autumn with their family and sheep. Bakhtiari’s nomads belong to Chahar Mahal and Bakhtiari province, which are mainly in Zard Kuh mountain chains doing their seasonal movement or KOOCH. This tribe has different customs, dialectic and clothes from other tribes. Bakhtiari’s nomads are mainly in the west of Esfahan province near Zard Kuh mountain.
The mission of this expedition/hiking journey is to experience nomadic life, learning their customs, way of life by walking through their tent camps in the heights and foothills of the Zagros mountain range. You will see how women work hard and how children also join in doing their chores. This Adventure Iran hiking tour is suitable for those who would like to hike in a remote area which is not found in any guide book, blog or a site. It’s a tailor made itinerary to have a long continuous day hiking through different families of nomads alongside a mountain chain of Zardkuh mountains. Every day we trek on and each night we will stay in different areas and have an unforgettable nights with nomadic families. We will explore different villages of nomad on our trip. Visiting their simple lifestyle, observing their folk costumes, tasting their food and socializing with them during the night and listening to their stories. These will be some of our experience of this journey. We have a continuous walk mainly through cols of nomads with challenging level of difficulty. We will trek a total of 100 km in 5 days. The total ascent will be 4418 and total decent 4315 m. The hike will start from a village through an oak forest of the Zagros mountains. During the 5 day hiking in the Zard Kuh mountain chain we will cross many rivers, passing various canyons, walk on the ridges of mountains and traverse many passes. We have to be fully prepared physically and mentally as we are going to be sharing tents and meals with tribes with very old custom and beliefs. This trip is suitable only for experienced hikers who have been on such a trip like this. We must be ready to handle different situations on this trip. We have to be flexible totally for any changes like the length of the trek, the volume of the water in the rivers, very cold water of rivers and hot day temperatures. If you are coming in early spring or late autumn for this trip you have to be prepared for rain and the cold temperature of the nights. This journey will start from the amazing city of Esfahan and a long drive through mountainous dirt road to a village in the heart of the mountains. The trek also ends in Esfahan.
