COVID-19 Travel Regulations for Iran (UPDATE) 25th of May 2022 Iran travel regulations have been updated and entering the country can now be made easier by the new rules and regulation set up by the Ministry of Cultural Heritage, Tourism, and Handicrafts. Iran's Deputy Minister of Cultural Heritage, Tourism, and Handicrafts Ministry, Mr. Ali Asghar Shalbafian, said: "According to Iran's National Headquarters for Coronavirus Control, Travelers and tourists can currently travel to Iran presenting either a double vaccination certificate or a negative corona test (PCR)." Previously, foreign tourists could enter the country if they provided both a vaccination certificate and a negative result of the Corona test. Now, to facilitate the entry and exit of foreign tourists from the air, land, and sea borders, both Iranian citizens, as well as citizens of countries that are not among the high-risk countries, can have only one of the two conditions to get an Iran visa. All passengers over the age of 12 can now present a vaccination certificate of COVID-19 in English showing that they were fully vaccinated at least 14 days before arrival, or a negative COVID-19 PCR or RT-PCR test taken at most 72 hours before departure from the first embarkation point. For those under the age of 12, neither a vaccination certificate nor PCR test is required. Since March 2020, Iran’s borders were closed to the world due to the Covid-19 pandemic. After 20 months of suspension, Iran's borders were reopened on 27th October 2021, so that foreign nationals were able to apply for an Iran tourist visa. From late October until the time being, Iran has experienced a 10 percent increase in foreign tourist arrivals. Shemshak Winter Mountain scenery Shemshak is the name of a touristic village before the revolution which has now turned mostly into a small town. Shemshak became famous because of the famous Shemshak Ski resort and a lot of old wealthy people before the revolution came to Shemshak for skiing and it was a hub for many active people in the past years. It’s located in the heights of central Alborz Mountains 50 km away from north east of the capital. The video that you see is a collection of 6 months of photography and timelapsing in the winter season from November 2020 till April 2021. Shemshak village is located between 2600 m – 2800m above the sea level surrounded by a lot of mountains above 4000m and it has about 6 months of winter. There is a long story behind this short video and these pictures as it happens after the pandemic situation when I moved from Lavasan to Shemshak to be far from the population. I had decided to make a short documentary about this special lifestyle that can happen in Iran and the things that happen in the village, but I couldn't make it fully and the end result was the aforementioned video. There were two reasons for that. The first was I didn't have much material and footage to make this video and the second was that I needed a crew and a lot of professional equipment to record this live life happening in the village. So I cut short the plan I had in my mind and only took the most special moments that happened during that winter and I asked our editor to make a nice slide show of the magnificent nature that happens in the high mountains of Alborz. New Requirements to Enter Iran (April 2022) As of April 7th, Iran entry requirements during Covid rules and regulations have been changed. For the last 2 months, no PCR test was required for entering Iran but as of now, the new Rules require a PCR test done within 72 hours before your flight for all individuals above the age of 12. A vaccination card is needed to enter the country as well. Please keep in mind that at least 15 days must have passed from your second dose. Iran entry requirements during Covid do not include proof of any booster shots. So the requirements are as bellow: All travelers over the age of 12 must provide a negative PCR test, conducted within 72 hours before arrival. A vaccination card as proof for the first double doses. Sizdah Be-dar Day Sizdah Be-dar is the thirteenth day of Farvardin (the first month of the Iranian calendar) and is one of the New Year’s festivals. In Iran’s official calendar, this day is designated as Nature Day and is a holiday. Some people believe that Sizdah Be-dar day has an ominous feel about it, so they prefer to leave their houses that day to spend time outdoors in natural surroundings. However, there is no historical and credible narrative to prove that the ancient Iranians had this view. After twelve days of celebration, Ancient Iranians would, on the thirteenth day of Nowruz, considered an auspicious day, go outside to appreciate nature and rejoice. By celebrating this day, they ended the Nowruz period. Sizdah Be-dar Traditions People prepare everything for Sizdah Be-dar a day before. For Aush Reshteh, all beans and grains get cooked the night before. In some parts of Iran, people believe that food must be cooked with wild herbs on this day.
