Iran Reaches 29 UNESCO World Heritage Sites with New Addition in Khorramabad Valley Date: July 2025 We’re proud to share that Iran has officially reached a new cultural milestone — the country now has 29 UNESCO World Heritage Sites! In 11 July 2025, UNESCO added the Prehistoric Sites of the Khorramabad Valley to its prestigious World Heritage List. This new recognition not only celebrates the deep archaeological and cultural significance of the Lorestan region but also places Iran among the top 10 countries worldwide with the most UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The Khorramabad Valley, located in the heart of the Zagros Mountains, is home to some of the earliest traces of human presence in Iran — dating back to the Paleolithic period. Stay tuned for our detailed post about this newly recognized site! Since 2021 Iran reached a series of new sites which were invaluable for the country and the world heritages. Trans-Iranian Railway (2021), Cultural Landscape of Hawraman/Uramanat (2021), Hyrcanian Forests (2019, 2023), The Persian Caravanserai (2023), Hegmataneh (2024) and Prehistoric Sites of the Khorramabad Valley (2025) are the sites has been registered recently in the UNESCO heritages.
