Kashan Joins UNESCO’s Creative Cities Network in Architecture On World Cities Day 2025, during the 43rd UNESCO General Conference in Samarkand, Kashan was officially recognized as a Creative City of Architecture by the UNESCO Creative Cities Network. This milestone marks one of the first times UNESCO has added architectures a distinct creative field in its network, placing Kashan alongside cities like Bistrita (Romania) and Lusail (Qatar) as pioneering “Creative Cities of Architecture.” This recognition adds to Kashan’s historic and evolving cultural legacy, affirming its significance not just as a city of the past, but as a living center for architectural creativity, heritage conservation, and sustainable cultural development. Why This Title Matters • New Creative Field Recognition Until now, UNESCO’s Creative Cities Network recognized seven fields (such as crafts, gastronomy, literature, music). The 2025 additions introduced architecture as a new creative dimension, broadening the mission and reach of the network. Kashan being among the first cities in this category underscores Iran’s contribution to architectural heritage. • Elevated Cultural Diplomacy With this status, Kashan can engage more actively in international cooperation, exchange programs, and joint architectural initiatives. The visa regulations described below were temporary, and Iran's visa policy has since reverted to its previous, more accessible norms. Independent travel is once again possible for most nationalities, and the mandatory guide requirement has been lifted. Iran Implements New Visa Regulations (Effective August 2025) The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced some significant changes for the issuance of visas to foreign travellers. As of August 2025, it won't be possible to travel independently in the country. Please note: Key Changes to Iran’s Visa Rules Mandatory Tour Packages All visa requests must be booked through a certified Iranian Tour Operator / travel agency with a pre-arranged itinerary. Fixed Itinerary Submission Applicants must submit a detailed travel plan, including: Exact entry/exit dates and border crossings; A day-by-day route with approved destinations. Agency-Arranged Accommodation Only Staying with locals or via platforms like Couchsurfing is no longer permitted; All lodging must be booked through licensed agencies at registered hotels/guesthouses. Licensed Guide Requirement Travellers must be accompanied by either: A full-time escort guide, or Local guides at each destination. Overland Travel Restrictions Entering Iran with private vehicles (cars, motorcycles, bicycles) is allowed but requires: A licensed guide for the entire journey; Pre-booked stays at approved accommodation. Strict Visa Extensions Extensions must be requested in advance through your travel agency. New Documentation Requirements Applicants must submit a resume file including: Travel history; Educational/professional background; Active social media profile links. Hegmataneh: Iran's Newest UNESCO World Heritage Site Hegmataneh Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site at the 46th Session in New Delhi We are thrilled to announce that Hegmataneh has been officially recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site during the 46th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee. This significant session, held in New Delhi, India, from July 21-31, 2024, has brought together over 2,500 delegates from around the world, including state representatives, diplomats, heritage experts, scholars, and researchers from 195 countries. Iran has proudly secured its place among the top 10 countries with the most UNESCO World Heritage Sites, a remarkable achievement that highlights its rich cultural and natural heritage. With 28 recognized sites, Iran stands as a testament to millennia of history, from the grandeur of the ancient Persian Empire to the artistic brilliance of the Islamic Golden Age. A Historic Session The 46th session of the World Heritage Committee is a momentous event, with representatives from 21 States Parties to the World Heritage Convention (1972) participating. These members were elected by the General Assembly of UNESCO during its 24th session in November 2023. The current committee includes Argentina, Belgium, Bulgaria, Greece, India, Italy, Jamaica, Japan, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Lebanon, Mexico, Qatar, Republic of Korea, Rwanda, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Senegal, Türkiye, Ukraine, Vietnam, and Zambia.
