Bakhtiari is the name of one main Iranian nomadic tribes who live and used to have a livestock life in heart of the Zagros mountains range. The area is a very big region starting from the north of Khuzestan province which is located in the west and the southwest of Iran, and the tribal region is stretched all the way to Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari province. The region has the most amazing landscapes in Iran for photography. It is one of the best places in the country for people, tribal, portrait, and documentary portraits photography. The best place in this region is located in a very remote area which is not accessible by paved road. So we have to have a long drive to reach the starting point of the journey and it has made this amazing nomadic region unique. We will start our trip from the capital by an 8-hour drive to a small town in the nomadic region, and from there we will take a 4×4 vehicle to pass a lot of mountains and valleys through a dirt road to reach the starting point of Photography of Bakhtiari nomads in Iran.

This photograph journey is designed for those who are interested in traveling to Off the Beaten Track of Iran for portraits and Landscape photography. This itinerary is very intensive and it is perfect for those who have a limited time to travel in Iran. Some of our Photographer travelers inquired us to combine this trip with another region which is proper for Photography in Iran.
The planned trip starts from the capital city of Tehran and ends in Tehran, but you could also start or finish it in Shiraz or Esfahan. We could tailor-make this itinerary according to your arrival and departure locations in those cities easily. We assume the travelers are photographers and our travel itinerary is based on stopping for people and landscape photography spots that we already marked for this expedition journey. So we didn’t add other attractions which would be highlighted for general cultural and historical travelers. This trip would also be ideal for those who are interested in documentary photography as you are going to see the lifestyle of the nomads, livestock, and the children who live with their parents in heart of the mountains.
In some parts of the trip, we have to walk about a couple of hours to reach the nomadic camp and visit the tribes who are living in the mountains. In addition, we have one full day trek to passing an amazing canyon with spectacular scenery of mountains, rivers, nomadic camps, and forests that will be very interesting for landscape photography. The travelers should have prepared for this hike with ascending and descent.
For the photography on this trip, you will visit different mountains, canyons, and valleys landscape in each day at the destination along with photography of the Bakhtiari tribes who are on our way to the mountains in their seasonal temporary nomadic camp. Besides the two main types of photography, you will visit a few amazing villages too that have stepped architecture and would be perfect for architecture photography. Communicating with men and challenging the ladies to ask them to take a picture would be another highlight and special experience on this trip.
