Many travelers visit Iran for the first time to experience Classic Iran Route or they will come to Iran for cultural or historical sightseeing but they would also like to have a short mountain biking or even cycling tour along their exploring trip. Meanwhile, they would like to go not far from the main Iran tourist cities. This flexible trip is one of the best options for riders who are looking for an active cycling trip near the Capital. The majority of travelers have limited information about the activities, mountains, and natural attractions in Tehran province which encloses the Capital. In Northern Tehran province, only 65 km from downtown Tehran, there are Central Alborz Mountains with opportunities for many activities. One of the most important parts of this region is called the Alborz Ski Region. It is located in the Roodbar Qasran District and covers the three most important Ski regions of Iran. There are Shemshak, Darbandsar, and Dizin ski resorts. The resorts are named after the villages near the ski resorts. During winter, the snow covers the whole region, and it is perfect for skiing. From April to November, this place would be the best location for those who are interested in cycling. There are a lot of nice roads with an amazing view of mountains that are ideal for road cyclists. Moreover, there are many dirt roads and single tracks passing the canyons and the rivers making this place proper for professional mountain bikers.
Along with the cycling activity, you could see Iranian people in this region who are different from the majority of the people you have seen in Tehran. The region has a lot of residential buildings and private houses which belong to rich people who live in the capital. There are a bunch of cafes and restaurants in this region and many of the shops opened recently have made this place more touristy.
You will start your cycling trip from Tehran. We will pick you up from your hotel in the capital. We will transfer you to Shemshak village which is about 65 km from the city center. Traveling time would be about 1.5 hours. During Iranian national holidays or weekends traveling time is longer because many locals go to the Alborz Ski region. On the road, you will cross a pass and a different canyon on your way to Shemshak. It is an interesting road with a great view of many mountains and canyons. You will also have about 1500 meters of elevation gain on this route. It would be very good for your acclimatization as well.
This travel itinerary is a 3 days and 2 nights trip and the details of your activities depend on the time and season you travel and your fitness level. So, we have various written travel itineraries depending on your interest and different levels of difficulty.
The first day is arrival and acclimatization and village walking. On the second day and third days, we offer you two different regions.
The starting point of cycling in this region starts from 2600 m altitude and you could ascend to 3800 m as well. So, we have plenty of choices for different fitness levels. For beginners or fun cycling, we offer road cycling from one village to another. Each day, you could choose from different roads for various mountain views and landscapes. For moderate riders, we could offer a paved road that goes up to a pass (3300m) with an amazing view of mountains and the Dizin Ski resort. For challenging mountain bikers, we offer mountain biking up to a pass (3400) through a dirt road with a nice view of Mt Damavand and ascending Abak Peak (3500m). Besides, there are a lot of single-track roads on the ski resort that would be challenging downhill.
