Cycling from Isfahan to Yazd via Varzaneh Desert – Dasht e Kavir

The journey will start from Esfahan historical city. You will be picked you up from your hotel at 13:00 and drive to Kuhpayeh town only 80 km east of Isfahan, where you will visit the old caravanserai of the town. This amazing Caravanserai is renovated in a modern style and we will check in this Caravanserai for this night. After check in and short rest, you will have tea and refreshment in the restaurant of the caravanserai. In the afternoon at 16:00 you will have a cycling tour around the town and you will visit the underground reservoir water and the old castle of the town back to the Sasanan period (1500 years ago) and the historical mosque of Kuhpayeh. In the evening, you have a locally made dinner. The night time would be a great opportunity to watch the stars of the desert. Overnight stay in Kuhpa Caravanserai hotel. (D)

For the second day plan, we considered 70 km cycling on the road from Kuhpayeh to Varzaneh and we have a lot of stops on the way to visit the most possible attraction of this region. We will wake up at 7 and after breakfast, we will check once again our bikes and hit the road to the desert. You will visit the historic village of Qehi and beyond first. In the village you will visit the remains of an old castle in a picturesque location ideal for taking photos. The houses, mosque and its underground water “Qanat“ are the highlights of the village. Then we continue cycling on the flat road to the desert. In two sides of the road you will have the view of different side of the desert and you will cross through interesting sites on this road like dry salt lake, sand dune and in some part you see farms. Also, people you will visit is interesting and there is the castle, old houses, historical mosque, water underground channel and Gavchah and Goortan citadel on our today’s way. On the route we will visit Ghurtan Citadel, dated back to 1100 years ago, Deylamian era, registered in National heritage. It contains 14 monitoring tower, 3 mosques, 1 local bath, 2 castles and a bazaar. We will continue to visit Guvchah, industrial irrigating system which it uses one or two cows to water the agricultural lands. Asiab Shotor with a background of 300 years is a mechanical system to grind the wheat, which is a must to see. Then we continue pedaling toward sand dunes and flat desert and then we will finish the day in Varzaneh town. Varzaneh is an old city surrounded by arid lands and deserts. We will stay in a historical local house that they made it as a guest house and we will have dinner with the family who they serve their local food for us. Then we leave to watch the sunset in the desert.. Overnight stay in the local house. (L, D).

We will wake up at the crack of dawn (optional) walking for a while to watch the sunrise view of the desert and will walk back to our house for breakfast. Then check one again the bikes and we will continue our cycling trip towards Nadoushan town, where Khargooshi castle is situated. This day, we will ride 68 km. The estimated time is about 8 hours. You will cross through amazing empty road with spectacular scenery and some time we will see small mountain, the remain of water from Gavkhooni and the castle and a couple of villages on the way. We will finish our cycling tour around Nadooshan and from there a car will pick you up and we will transfer you to Yazd. We will be there around evening and drop off in your hotel. (B, L)
