This relatively new destination in Iran is among the most beautiful parts of the country that is still untouched. It is located in the south east of the country, having 1100km land border with Pakistan and Afghanistan. This destination has varied types of terrain. For example, desert regions like Dasht-e Lut desert (UNESCO natural), mountain regions like active volcanos of Mount Taftan (4000m) and Bazman (3940m), beaches and 300 km of coastal line in the Makran Sea (Gulf of Oman) by the Indian Ocean. These different regions created a lot of natural attraction for adventurous travelers who would like to travel to Off the Beaten Track destinations. The famous Mars Mountains, Mangrove forest, Organic banana orchard, Dive center, Mud volcano, Desert adventures, Fishing villages, Wet land of Bahukalat and its Mugger crocodiles, hiking to snow-capped mountains, amazing untouched beaches and boat trip along the ports are among the most famous activities you can have in Sistan and Baluchistan.

In the historical side of this region, you could explore Sistan civilization and visit different regions like Kuh-e Khuaja (UNESCO tentative) which is a historical fortresses dating back to pre-Islam periods, Burnt City 3200 BC (UNESCO site) and Kalpuregan village which is the lonely living Pottery Museum in the World with 7000 years of  history.

In the cultural aspect of this destination, they have their own custom, languages (Sistani and Baloochi), clothes and local foods. It is one of the most authentic regions of Iran in term of anthropology. One of the most hospitable people in Iran are Sistani and Baloochi people. They have kept their practices alive with traditional clothes. The women have special handmade dresses, which they cover with Chadoor (chadah).

Along those attractions, the two main cities of Zahedan and Chabahar are cities worth visiting. You have many tourist highlights to choose from and the most interesting part is the Bazaar. You could have a wide range of spices, fruits, fishes and shrimps, local handicraft and local foods to explore. However, the most interesting part is that you could get in touch with local. Photography in these cities are the most special side of your trip as you will not find a region as special as Sistan & Baluchistan in Iran.

Zahedan and Chabahar are far from Tehran. Tehran to Zahedan is about 1500km and Tehran to Chabahar is about 1800 km. There are a few daily flights going to both cities and there is a daily departure night train from capital to Zahedan as well. The distance between the main cities in Sistan and Baluchistan is quite long. The distance from Zabol (north of Sistan) to Chabahar is about 860 km or from Zahedan to Chabahar is about 650 km.
