Sistan and Baluchistan province is in the south east of Iran on border of Afghanistan and Pakistan. To the south of the province is the Indian ocean and the Gulf of Oman.
This province is about the size of Switzerland, the Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, Slovenia combined. So there’s a fair amount of driving from the north to the south of this province. This province has 1,100 km a land border with Pakistan and Afghanistan and it has a coastal stretch of 300 km along the Indian Ocean’s Gulf of Oman. The people who live here are the Baluchi tribes who are Suni Muslims and the Sistani tribes are Shi’a Muslims, they both speak Persian.
The Sistan and Baluchistan province is really amazing with huge contrasts between the deserts, snowcapped mountains, and strange rock formations, an active 4,000 m volcano, Martian scenery and cliff enclosed fishing villages along the coast, tropical rivers with the rare Mugger crocodile. It’s Iran’s least known destination yet one of the most beautiful parts of our country. An example of one of the places you shall visit is the famous UNESCO listed (in 2015) Shahr-I Sokhta or “Burnt city” founded around 3200 BC situated at the junction of Bronze Age trade routes crossing the Iranian plateau. Another region we are going to visit on this trip is Dasht-e Lut desert. One of Iran’s main highlights, in terms of nature. Since Iranian deserts were on the Silk Road, there are many historical monuments and sites left from that period that are worth visiting. There are many different types of flora and fauna living in this hot region and many Caravanserais that still accommodate travellers like you. The Lut desert was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2016. Another main highlight of this journey is exploring the coast of the Gulf of Oman as well as visiting several small towns and fishing villages.
With this trip you will discover one of the less visited regions of Iran, which is still very much unknown to both visitors and Iranians. It’s a 9-day exploration of the north part of Sistan and Baluchistan province (the 2nd largest of Iran). You will arrive in Tehran and continue with a night train to Zahedan (25 hours-1500 km) in the south east of the county nearby Afghanistan and Pakistan countries. You will visit Sistan civilization in north of Zahedan and you will visit different ancient complex as well as Shahre Sokhteh (Burnt City) which is a UNESCO world heritage site. In Sistan you will experience a combination of history, civilization, culture, history of religions, a variety of local foods, different local traditions, a diversity of architecture, mythology, visiting local tribes as well as seeing the amazing landscape of mountains and desert. Also Zahedan, the province’s capital is interesting as the people have different cloths and custom. Also the is a local bazaar in the downtown, which is one the main highlights of the city. You will have a one-day excursion trip to the Dashte Lut desert which is one the hottest place in the earth. After one week you will fly to Tehran and after one-day visit of Tehran you will fly back home.
This trip cover only the north part of the province and the main focus of this trip is cultural, historical and people. There is another trip to South of the province with the main focus of nature and land space and visiting wonders of this amazing land. You can continue your journey with our one-week extension tour to complete your adventure in this province.
