Desert of Maranjab located in the eastern city of Kashan in Esfahan province. The desert its one of the closer interesting desert region between Tehran and Kashan. Also, there is an amazing salt lake around this desert and would be nice to see the sand dune and the lake as well as the flat desert of the Desert National Park (Parke Meli Kavir).

The altitude of Maranjab desert is about 850 meters from the sea level and the highest point of the area is about 880 meters above sea level. There is the possibility for adventurous travellers to do short and long trekking, desert mountain biking and camping in the desert.

The tour is a short desert trekking for who would like to have an experience Iran desert tour with limited time. As Maranjab desert attached to the Capital in the southern part it would be a good idea have a an excursion in Dashte Kavir. You can book this tailor made tour independently or also you can book this tour as an add on when you have another tour with us. It would be a pre package or an extension tour with other tours. The tour starts from your hotel in Tehran early morning with a 4×4 car. We have 4 hours driving (on road and dirt road) to reach the starting point of the trekking. We consider two different terrains for walking in the desert. Walking on the sand dune and walking over the dry Salt lake. We have one night camping in the desert and we can see the millions of start in the silence of the desert. Then the next day would be another direction walking and then we will back Tehran in the late afternoon.

Day 1: Drive to Maranjab

Early morning we will drive to Maranjab desert for approximately 4 hours. We will visit sand dunes and an old caravanserai. We will start trekking from the caravanserai towards the salt lake in the heart of the desert. We will have packed lunch in the desert. The afternoon will be spent photographing different spots of the desert towards the salt lake. We will finish the day by watching the beautiful sunset and making a camp. Overnight we will stay in our tents and dinner will be prepared in the camp. (B, L, D)

Day 2: Drive back to Tehran

Early morning rise up at dusk to watch the rising sun and photography. After breakfast we will start our hike towards the lake. We have 5-6 hours trekking for this day. We will back to the camp and having the lunch. From there we will drive back to Tehran. We will be there in the evening. (B, L, D) Option: If you wanted to continue your journey to Kashan, the driver can drop you off on Kashan.

Deviating from this itinerary is unpreventable sometimes due to weather conditions, seasonal changes, frequency of visits to a village or for any other factor which may influence our travel times and schedules. Furthermore, this is the tight itinerary and sometimes we must skip a place or two depending on the season.
After November, until March the road from Garmarud to the Caspian Sea is covered with snow so the tour is performed via a second route. For more information please get in touch.
