Talesh, also called Tavalesh va Hashtpar  is a county in Gilan Province in

Iran. The capital of the county is Talesh City. Talesh has mountainous wonderful areas, and its virgin and intact nature is a charmingTalesh 3

place for those eager of nature. Talesh is situated 140 km north-west of Rasht, on the south-west coast of the Caspian Sea. Talesh township, covering an area of 2373 square kilometers , ¼ of surface area of Guilan.

Knitting of socks and stockings, weaving of coarse wool blankets (jajim) are famous among different handicrafts of this township.

Talesh is believed to be where the Aryan People (the first Indo-European people that moved down from what are today the Russian steppes to Europe, Iran, Central Asia and northern India in the second millennium BCE) first settled. It is also said to be the birth place of Zoroaster, the prophet of the ancient Persian religion, Zoroastrianism.

Talesh has a sub-tropical climate with a lush green landscape. The region can be divided into two parts, the lowlands and the highlands. The lowlands lie along the fertile coastal

plain of the Caspian Sea and are abundant with rice paddies and orchards.

The highlands constitute almost three quarters of the area of Talesh and are covered by dense deciduous forests and

meadows. The Talesh Massif forms a 300 km long natural barrier against the drier climate to the south and west. Its highest peak, Bagharo Dagh, has an altitude of 3200 meters.

History:

Taleshan are, as archaeological studies show and archeologists say, one of the oldest inhabitants of Caspian Sea, have lived in Talesh land in old Persia and present Iran, even before Aryans migration. According to some researchers, Taleshan have been in this area 3

000 years before the Aryan. Because of their light skin and blue eyes, good indications that

they may be the Aryans aran Iran.

There is a strong believes from scholars (of course the present Taleshian people have faith it) that the Kadousian are the ancestor of the today’s Taleshian. In the triumph of Babel by Datam with 20,000 dogfaces and 4000 cavalry men helped Kourosh's army.

The land of Talesh was much bigger than what it is now. In old time the geographical areas of Taleshian people was more than 10,000 kilometer and at present Taleshan live in Gilan province, some cities in Ardabil province, some cities in Azarbaijan Reuablic.

The people of Talesh have their own distinct language and culture, which have been preserved over the centuries by the remoteness of their land. A great many of them are pastoralists and semi nomadic. They migrate to the highlands with their herds of sheep and goats every spring for pasture. They live in wooden houses or a kind of fixed tent called Chapar in their summer encampments.
